Flores handed chamber reins

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors made it official on Wednesday by naming Alma Flores, of San Benito, as the Chamber’s Executive Director.

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce board of directors, comprising of Toni Crane, Chairman of the board, Sam Patel, Vice-Chairman, Isabel Boswell, Treasurer, Linda De La Rosa, Secretary, Albert Muniz, Velma De Los Santos, Mary Valdez, Andrea Martinez, Luis Gonzales, Patricia Avila, Gilbert Galvan, and Wayne Powell presented the organization’s reigns to Flores after she served some four month’s as intern director.

Flores, who is currently pursuing a degree in International Business at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and resides in San Benito, “has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills,” the board announced in a Facebook post.

Since succeeding former Executive Director Michelle Guerra in March 2025, Flores has served as the interim Executive Director, showcasing her capabilities in this role.

Flores initially joined the San Benito Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador in October 2024 and quickly made a significant impact on the organization, exemplifying her dedication and work ethic.

With the support of the board of directors, Flores successfully hosted the Chamber’s 8th annual Resaca City Bike Tour and inaugural Health Fair, yielding exceptional results and making the event a resounding success.

Flores has focused on member outreach, retention, and developing diverse strategies to enhance business growth, demonstrating her commitment to the Chamber’s mission.

“Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our Executive Director, Miss Alma Flores,” the post read.
“We are excited about the future of the San Benito Chamber of Commerce under Miss Flores’ leadership and look forward to continuing to work together to achieve shared goals,” the post concluded.

Flores is also no stranger to the business community. While most people her age are focused on school and their social lives, Flores earned he cosmetology license and is a practicing cosmetologist.

In April, she sat with the NEWS sharing, “I am profoundly honored to serve as the Executive Director of the San Benito Chamber of Commerce. My journey into community service began at the age of 14, driven by a deep passion for making a meaningful difference, not only in San Benito but also in communities beyond.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of organizing and hosting numerous events that bring people together and celebrate the unique spirit of community involvement.”

“Starting my journey with the Chamber as an ambassador was truly transformative. It allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant tapestry of our local community through volunteering, participating in ribbon cuttings, and supporting local businesses. Each experience, both within and outside of San Benito, fueled my enthusiasm and commitment, reinforcing my belief in the power of collaboration and engagement across communities,” she added.

Flores continued by explaining that when the opportunity arose to apply for the Executive Director position, she embraced it wholeheartedly. She added that the Chamber has been instrumental in shaping her path and that she’s deeply grateful for the trust and support from those who believe in her vision and potential.
“Stepping into this leadership role is both humbling and inspiring, and I am committed to serving with passion, dedication, and integrity,” she said.

“As someone born and raised in San Benito, I carry a profound love for our city and its people. My vision as Executive Director is to foster an environment where businesses flourish, partnerships thrive, and every individual feels empowered to contribute to our collective success. I am dedicated to creating initiatives that drive economic growth, inspire innovation, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as a community,” she explained.

Flores went on to describe her board, ambassadors, and local partners as “incredible” and their support as “unwavering.” “I am excited to lead efforts that will honor San Benito’s rich heritage while embracing new opportunities for progress. Together, we can build a brighter future—one rooted in collaboration, resilience, and the shared pride we all have for our beloved city,” she concluded.
