BROWNSVILLE, TX—Normando Uribe, who was earlier convicted of a 2022 homicide that occurred in the Los Fresnos area, was sentenced this week to a 10-year prison term.
Uribe was found guilty on Friday on the murder charge stemming from the death of 41-year-old Jose Angel Bravo, court records show.
According to a previous NEWS report based on a Cameron County Sheriff’s Office investigation at the time of the incident, Bravo was found with gunshot wounds, lying in a pool of blood at a home off of FM 1575 near Los Fresnos on Oct. 4, 2022.
After initially fleeing capture, Uribe was apprehended while roaming the Green Valley Farms Subdivision, a colonia located on the outskirts of San Benito, a day later.
Uribe claimed self-defense during his trial held in a Cameron County Courtroom. The suspect was looking at close to 100 years in prison for the murder conviction, but a jury on Monday sentenced a 29-year-old suspect to 10 years.
According to court records, Uribe had been on trial since June 16. He has remained jailed in the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olimto on a $1 million bond since Oct. 5, 2022.
On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, Cameron County Sheriff’s Investigators obtained what the sheriff’s office described as corroborating evidence that identified Uribe as the murder suspect in the death of Bravo.
On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, Uribe was spotted walking along a canal near the area where he had evaded arrest and detention. Uribe was taken into custody and was transported to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office for an interview and then transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he was booked for Murder TPC 19.02, a 1st Degree Felony, and Evading Arrest/ Detention, a Class A misdemeanor.
On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a residence located off of FM 1575 in the outskirts of Los Fresnos, about a welfare concern of a male person lying face down on the driveway, according to a Cameron County Sheriff’s office press release.
Upon arrival, the deputy observed dried blood on the ground and on the person from what appeared to be possible gunshot wounds. The deputy immediately secured the area. Justice of the Peace Juan Mendoza was called to the scene and officially pronounced the male subject deceased.
After a preliminary investigation, the deceased male was identified as Bravo. Next of kin were notified as Mendoza ordered an autopsy.
