The City of San Benito held a joint meeting between the City Commission and the Economic Development Corporation [EDC] on April 22, with no public comments recorded.

During the meeting, the commissions recognized National Community Development Week in conjunction with the 51st anniversary of the Community Development Block Grant [CDBG] program. According to the City’s website, the CDBG program supports state and local efforts to “preserve and develop viable urban communities,” particularly benefiting low-income individuals and households.

In further recognition of community equity, the commissions approved Resolution Number 2025-0422-003(R), reaffirming the City’s commitment to the Fair Housing Act. April was also officially proclaimed Fair Housing Month in San Benito.

City Financial Director Stephanie Sarrionandia presented the San Benito EDC’s quarterly financial report for October through December 2024. As of December 2024, the EDC’s total assets stood at $6,638,636, compared to $5,784,872 in December 2023. The current revenue and expenditure summary showed an ending fund balance of $5,872,317.

While Resolution 2025-0422-001(R)—regarding EDC banking services—was presented, no action was taken. However, the commissions approved amendments to the EDC’s corporate filings and ratified a Master Service Agreement with JustFOIA, an online public information request platform. Discussions on purchasing new computers and equipment were tabled for a future meeting.

The commissions also approved the rescheduling of the April 17 EDC board meeting to May 29. In a move aimed at encouraging long-term economic collaboration, the commission and the San Benito Chamber of Commerce discussed drafting a memorandum of understanding to promote the City’s growth. It was agreed that the city and the chamber will split the cost of a membership renewal fee, with a future workshop planned for further discussion.

The meeting concluded with an executive session to consider potential legal matters related to the Resaca Village development project. No further details were disclosed, but the commission proceeded according to discussions held in the closed session.

The meeting was then adjourned.
