Citizen talks easement issue

The City of San Benito held a regular meeting on March 18, 2025.

San Benito citizen Mike Travis opened public comments. He expressed excitement at the City’s use of a brush truck, calling it a good use of tax dollars. Travis commented on the ongoing lawsuit between Dolcefino Media and the City of San Benito, as well as the San Benito Economic Development Center. He criticized the media investigation company for requesting a “bucket load” of information from the city.

Another San Benito citizen, Eddie Loa, spoke about an easement near the Fun-N-Sun resort, near his home. Resort residents often access the easement. Loa said resort officials emailed him, alleging to own the easement. Loa said the officials haven’t produced any legal documents proving their claim. He insisted that he would continuously address the matter at future commission meetings.

The commission approved items on the consent agenda and the March 4 Regular Commission Meeting minutes.

The commission approved the annual payment to Versaterm Public Safety US Inc. for the San Benito Police Department dash camera software and the purchase of five MPH Python KA Band FS Dual Antenna police radars from Dana Safety Supply Inc.

The commission approved two final readings for rezoning properties in the San Benito Land and Water Company subdivision, however, the commission chose to deny the 2025 Consumer Price Index adjustment to municipal telecommunications’ right-of-way access line rates.

The commission approved an annual payment to Versaterm Public Safety US Inc. for the dash cameras used by the San Benito Police Department and the purchase of five police radars from DANA Safety Supply. The commission also approved payment to Level-Up Retail Services for installing the fitness court equipment. Payment to number ten to Ferguson Service Systems for the El Camino Number One Lift Station Improvements Project was approved.

The commission tabled discussions for a potential document scanning service for the City.

The commission tabled discussions on the City’s water rights purchase. According to documents available on the agenda, the purchase would remove A&E Johnson Properties Ltd as part owner and add Komerco LLC in its place.

The commission decided to act as approved in the executive session for Project Number 2025-001. Additional documents on the agenda show that this project addresses the property purchases from RGV Sheet Metal Inc.
