CORPUS CHIRISTI, TX—The San Benito Lady Greyhound softball players competed at the Bayfront Bash, held here, Feb. 28 – March 1, and broke even following four games.
San Benito won two games on the tournament’s first day at Cabaniss Field against Corpus Christi Miller (11-3 score) and Austin Westlake (5-3 score).
The following day, with games played at Carroll High School, the Lady ‘Hounds lost twice. They fell to The Woodlands Colle Park (14-3) and host Carroll (10-2).
Following the tournament, San Benito’s record improved to 8-4-1.
San Benito was not the only team to compete in Corpus Christi. District 32-6A foes Harlingen, Los Fresnos, and Brownsville Veterans Memorial were also there.
Harlingen beat San Marcos (11-0) and Corpus Christi Ray (7-0) and lost to Tuloso-Midway (9-5) and CC Carroll (2-0. Los Fresnos lost to CC King (3-2), London (3-2), and CC Miller (20-5), and defeated San Marcos (8-5). The Vets lost four tournament games to London (14-1), CC Carroll (6-1), San Gertrudis Academy (10-1), and CC Veterans Memorial (5-4).
Raymondville and Lyford were the other Rio Grande Valley teams competing.
Following the tournament, the Lady ‘Hounds will play Corpus Christi Calallen, Bishop, Lyford, and Zapata. District play begins against Brownsville Hanna on March 18.
The roster for the Lady ‘Hounds is as follows: sophomore Megan Medina (1), sophomore Avani Garza (2), sophomore Arianna Rodriguez (3), senior Keara Dominguez (4), sophomore Arielle Hernandez (5), freshman Isabella Gonzalez (6), sophomore Evelynn Hinojosa (7), sophomore Eliza Gallegos (9), freshman Mia Guerrero (10), junior Aliyah Puente (11), freshman Annalise Rodriguez (12), sophomore Destiny Hernandez (13), sophomore Kaitlynn Martinez (14), senior Jozanna Montes (15), sophomore Jewelianah Mares (16), and senior Maite Cervantes (20).
