A Harlingen teen is dead after an apparent hit-and-run collision, which occurred just outside the San Benito city limits during the early morning hours on Sunday, Feb. 9.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), authorities are searching for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a 15-year-old bicyclist dead early Sunday morning just outside the San Benito.
DPS identified the bicyclist as Harlingen resident Kayden Schwartz, 15 years of age.

According to a DSP media release, the crash occurred at about 3:03 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 1846 near County Road 278.

According to authorities, Schwartz was traveling northbound on his bicycle on FM 1846, when an unknown vehicle, also traveling the same direction, struck the bicyclist from behind.

The DPS officials said the suspect’s vehicle allegedly left the scene without rendering aid to the teenage victim. Schwartz died from his injuries at the scene.

The suspect’s vehicle is possibly between a 2023-2025 Ford F-250 or a larger Ford pick-up model, which is unknown in color with chrome trimming and front right damage, DPS said in the release.
