San Benito is set to see the construction of a new Chick-fil-A location for the area.
Chick-fil-A’s official website indicates the chain only opens a set number of new locations in a year, making the San Benito location much more lucrative. The website also notes that the franchise chooses locations based on “corporate goals for expansion in specifically targeted markets.”
According to the official listing at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction is set to begin March 6, 2025, and finish Aug. 6, 2025. The estimated cost of the project is currently over $1M and is expected to be about 5,594 square feet.
The new restaurant will be located at 1100 W Business 77, San Benito. The listing was registered on Aug. 22.
The NEWS attempted to contact San Benito City Manager/San Benito EDC Director Fred Sandoval for comment but he did not respond by the publication’s Thursday deadline.
According to its corporate website, Chick-fil-A’s history and culture are shaped by the values of its founder, S. Truett Cathy, and his family. Cathy was a devout Southern Baptist whose religious beliefs influenced the company’s purpose, which is. “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. (And) to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A”. The Cathys’ values have made Chick-fil-A a beloved brand for some, but disliked by others.
In 1946, Cathy, made the decision to close on Sundays. He knew what it was like to work seven days a week in restaurants, so he saw the importance of letting his employees set aside one day to rest and worship, if they choose. That’s a practice still upheld today.
That same year, Truett and his brother Ben opened their first restaurant, The Dwarf Grill, in Atlanta. By 1964, Truett perfected the recipe for the original chicken sandwich, which is considered by some to be the first fried chicken breast sandwich. He asked customers for feedback on the sandwich, and eventually came up with the right mix of more than 20 seasonings. The secret recipe is still used today and is kept in a safe at the company’s Atlanta headquarters, reads Chick-Fil-A’s corporate website.
In 1967, Truett opened the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Atlanta’s Greenbriar Shopping Center, and by 1984, Chick-fil-A established its corporate headquarters outside of downtown Atlanta.
By 1986, Chick-fil-A opened its first free-standing restaurant on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta, moving out of a mall food court, and in 1995, the eatery ran its first ad campaign, featuring Holstein cows and the slogan, “Eat More Chickin.”
In 1996, the restaurant became the title sponsor of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the country’s longest-standing bowl game, and by 2006, Chick-fil-A surpassed $2 billion in sales.
The website states that Chick-fil-A’s culture is inclusive, purpose-driven, and values people and customers. The company’s core values include the customer first.
