Villarreal arrested in stabbing

LOS FRESNOS, TX—Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an alleged stabbing incident perpetrated against a 63-year-old man.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at about 4 p.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on the 36000 block of FM 2480, in Los Fresnos regarding an alleged stabbing.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies made contact with a 63-year-old male subject and a 42-year-old witness. The subject reported that he was working construction with the assistance of the witness and 45-year-old Juan Villarreal.

The subject alleged that Villarreal had been consuming alcoholic beverages (beer) and began making mistakes at the jobsite. The victim reported that he climbed a ladder to correct the mistakes Villarreal had allegedly make, and Villarreal began to argue with subject.

The subject continued to tell deputies that at one point, Villarreal allegedly threatened him by saying he was going to stab the subject. According to the CCSO, the subject then told deputies that Villarreal allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the foot.

Sheriff’s deputies observed a laceration through the subject’s boot and foot consistent with his statement. Deputies were then able to make contact with the witness who corroborated the subject’s statement. Sheriff’s deputies made contact with Villarreal at his residence down the street, but did not locate the weapon.

Sheriff’s deputies, however, proceeded to arrest Villarreal and ultimately transported him to the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Villarreal was charged with Aggravated Assault w/ Deadly Weapon; TPC 22.02, a 2nd Degree Felony.
