DWI – Driving with Intelligence (DWI) is a newly established transportation service based in the Harlingen and San Benito area, spearheaded by CEO and owner Jonathan Sanchez and managed by Jessica Camacho.
The inception of DWI dates back 13 years ago, when Sanchez conceptualized the idea, meticulously crafting the company’s name, logo, pricing, and bundles.
“I met him four years ago, and we decided to put it into motion in July of 2023,” Camacho said, reflecting on the journey of bringing DWI to fruition. Currently, DWI operates with Sanchez primarily handling driving duties and promotion, while Camacho assists with driving when needed and manages social media, scheduling, and other administrative tasks.
DWI sets itself apart from other rideshare programs by focusing on providing safe transportation options for individuals who have been imbibing adult beverages, with the aim of reducing the number of DWIs in Cameron County. DWI offers basic pick-up services within Harlingen and the San Benito area for $10, ensuring affordability and accessibility. One-way trips outside these areas are priced at $15, while round-trip rides are available for $25.
“We are very similar to Uber and Lyft services but focus more on getting drivers who have been drinking off the streets for their own safety and that of others around them,” Camacho, a San Benito native, said. DWI also extends its services to include various transportation needs such as rides to work, grocery pick-ups, bundle rides with event centers, and automotive assistance.
Additionally, Sanchez is trained to handle minor roadside repairs. He recently posted about his auto technician certification. As part of DWI’s service, he will go out to a client and help with flat tires, or if someone runs out of gas or needs a jumpstart.
DWI’s commitment to community safety and convenience is reflected in its offerings and pricing. Customers can avail of a $5 discount on their first ride. For bookings and further information, visit DWI’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/sobertransports or contact (956) 564-4072.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cameron County averages around 418 DUI-related crashes annually, leading to around 12 fatalities annually and causing approximately 72 serious injuries per year.
In Texas, there are nearly 340 DUI arrests made per 100,000 licensed drivers and five people are killed in car crashes involving a drunk driver for less than every 100,000 Texans, according to a 2023 Responsibility.org study. The same study revealed that Texas ranked third in the nation among states with the most drunk driving arrests and citations.
