RAYMONDVILLE, TX—Mauro Garza recently announced his candidacy for District 34 U.S. Representative.
According to his prepared announcement, Garza is an eighth-generation South Texan business owner, and father.

In the statement, Garza writes that he spent his childhood in towns across the district, calling Raymondville home. He goes on to note that his career began with the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCADA) in Austin, TX in 1991. TCADA was eventually absorbed into Texas Health and Human Services.

He mentions that while working full-time, he maintained academic endeavors with evening and weekend research studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) where he completed his Master of Science degree with an emphasis in Neurophysiology in 1992, under a Biomedical Research Scholarship.

Garza states that after obtaining his graduate degree, he began teaching evening classes as an adjunct faculty member for Alamo Community College District (ACCD). In 1997, he then transitioned into his next position at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (SFBR) in San Antonio, according to the press release.

The candidate also mentions that in 1997, he accepted the Director of Grants and Contracts Management position at SFBR, presently known as Texas Biomedical Research Institute (TBRI).

He was part of the administrative/budgetary team that was instrumental in establishing the Southwest Primate Research Center. His efforts brought millions in funds into San Antonio for research and technology, according to the press release.

He goes on to state that in 2001, he founded Everett Holdings, LLC. In 2002, he embarked on his second entrepreneurial profession by founding M. Garza Enterprises, Inc. (MGEI). His business interests include raising cattle, commercial real estate, consumer product vending machines, and a restaurant/bar.

Garza is an avid marathon runner, with a total of 51 completed marathons. He successfully completed the World Marathon Challenge in 2017, which included running seven marathons in seven days on seven continents, as stated in the press release.

Garcia is running as a Republican and is facing Republican opponents Mayra Flores, Gregory Scott Kunkle Jr., and Laura Cisneros, in the Primary.

The winner of the March 5, 2024 Republican Primary will face the winner of the Democratic Primary in
the November 2024 General Election.

U.S. Congressional District 34 encompasses the totality of Kingsville, Raymondville, Weslaco, Harlingen, San Benito, Brownsville, and the Laguna Madre.

Early voting commenced on February 20, 2024, and runs through March 1, 2024.
