Crash suspects arrested

BROWNSVILLE, TX—Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz recently announced that on Dec. 21, 2023, Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Reynaldo Mendoza and his father, Ernesto Mendoza for the fatal traffic incident in Rio Hondo that occurred on Thanksgiving.

Reynaldo Mendoza was arraigned on Dec. 22, 2023 by Cameron County Magistrate Judge Gabriela Martinez. Bond/bail was set in the following manner: Racing on a Highway Causing Death, Second Degree Felony – $30,000 Cash/Surety; Accident-Causing Death, Second Degree Felony – $30,000 Cash/Surety; Tampering with Evidence, Third Degree Felony – $15,000 Cash/Surety.

Reynaldo Mendoza’s father, Ernesto Mendoza was also arrested and arraigned on the same day by Cameron County Magistrate Judge Martinez. His bond/bail was set in the following manner: Tampering with Evidence, Third Degree Felony – $15,000 Cash/Surety; False Report to Peace Officer, Class “B” Misdemeanor – $2,000 Cash/Surety.
