Toy distribution events, 5K run top Christmas activities

While the Resaca City’s always anticipated downtown holiday parade came and went last weekend, there are still plenty of activities and events area residents can look forward to these weeks leading up to Christmas.

The San Benito Cultural Arts Center’s Castilian Roses in December exhibit is running through January 19, 2024 at the San Benito Cultural Arts Center, 250 E. Heywood St., San Benito. The annual exhibit features various works reflecting Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance to Juan Diego. For more information, contact the cultural art center at (956) 281-0810 or (956) 893-1097.

A number of area toy collection and distribution efforts are underway. One effort is being spearheaded by the San Benito Police Department (SBPD). The SBPD’s Christmas with a Cop toy distribution event is set for Saturday, December 16, 2023 between 9 a.m. – noon at the San Benito Community Building, 210 E. Heywood St., San Benito. Veterans Memorial Academy (VMA) is conducting a toy drive benefiting the San Benito Food Pantry and is accepting donations through Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Donations can be dropped off at VMA’s main office or room B116. The VMA is located at 2115 N. Williams Rd., San Benito. For more information, call (956) 276-6000.

The San Benito NJROTC is conducting its own Toys for Tots Drive and is accepting donations through December 20, 2023 at San Benito High School, M-8 (The NJROTC Classroom). For more information, call (956) 361-6500.

The City of Los Indios Police Department (LIPD) is holding its own Christmas Toy Drive Giveaway on Friday, December 22, from 6-8 p.m. at 109 E. 6th Ave. in Los Indios. The toy distribution event is open to Los Indios residents only, and proof of residency from the parent or guardian of the attending child is required. For more information, call (956) 399-4255.

The Friends of the San Benito Public Library are holding Photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus on Friday, December 15, 2023 between 5-6 p.m. at the San Benito Public Library, located on 101 W. Rose St, San Benito. Cost is $3 per photo. For more information, call the library at (956) 361-3860.
