RIO HONDO, TX—To enhance district operations and strategic planning, Rio Hondo ISD Executive Leadership joined the Region One Education Service Center’s (ESC) first Texas Strategic Leadership cohort at the start of the Fall 2023 semester.

The Texas Strategic Leadership Program is an executive coaching model designed to empower educational leaders with the tools, strategies and mindsets needed to drive positive change and foster student success.
Alongside Rio Grande City Grulla ISD and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD, Rio Hondo ISD is participating in dedicated practice sessions to improve instruction and talent recruitment and retention at the district level.

“Texas Strategic Leadership has engaged my team with meaningful learning experiences,” Rio Hondo ISD Superintendent Raul J. Treviño said. “In September, we observed the instructional practices of a high-performing Texas school district and used that experience to improve instruction at Rio Hondo ISD.”
Superintendent Treviño said he enjoys learning with larger school districts and adopting some of their practices.

“As a small district, we have learned how we can be more adaptive and precise in our efforts,” he said. “We have the same goals as our fellow cohort members, but different resources. So, it’s good to learn how we can innovate to be just as effective.”

According to Superintendent Treviño, the Texas Strategic Leadership experience helped his team isolate the most important aspects of district operations.
