Dr. Clarence McCellan Cash (C.M.) was born on April 19, 1864, in White, Tennessee. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Texas and married Theodosia Ella Stone on November 20, 1884, in Kisse, TX.
Dr. Cash received his medical license in 1897 at Fort Worth University. In 1904, the Cashes moved to Abilene, TX, and formed a partnership with another doctor. They were the parents of four children. Dr. Cash and his family moved to San Benito in 1914.
Dr. Cash was part of San Benito‘s first Board of Health Officer. Dr. Cash’s wife, Theodosia, was killed in the hurricane of 1919 that hit Corpus Christi while visiting relatives.
He registered for military service in 1921 and remarried in 1922 to Mona Reed. He served two terms as San Benito Mayor and city commissioner for six terms. He was also President of the San Benito Rotary Club. Dr. Cash was Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, in 1930. In 1940, a room was dedicated to him at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen.
