Area incidents investigated

Cameron County Sherriff’s Deputies made two area arrests recently in separate incidents.

A Lozano woman is facing animal cruelty charges. On July 29, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Lozano area in reference to a welfare concern on three dogs.

According to a Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) report, upon arrival, the deputies observed a dog tied to a tree. Deputies described the dog as being visibly malnourished with his bones protruding from his body and appeared to have pus coming out from his eyes.

In another tree, the report states, the deputies observed a second dog tied, malnourished, with mange and calloused buttocks. A third dog was located; he was not tied but it had several wounds on his neck, mange over his body and displayed a swollen abdomen.

As deputies continued their investigation, the deputies witnessed that all three dogs were, “living in deplorable conditions and needed medical attention,” read the sheriff’s office report. Deputies made contact with the owner of the three dogs and identified her as Tracy Amber Galvan.

As Galvan was interviewed, she admitted to having the dogs for about a month and not providing them any medical attention.

In addition, Galvan stated she did not have the time nor the money to provide any care to her dogs, according to the CCSO. After further investigation, all three dogs were turned over to Cameron County Animal Control and Galvan was charged with three counts of Cruelty to Animals.
