It’s been more than six years since the body of San Benito native Nahomi Rodriguez was found in a ditch just outside the Rio Hondo city limits. Rodriguez had been presumed missing for nearly a year after leaving work late one night in Harlingen.
Now, Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz has identified a person of interest in the murder and the person is already behind bars for a different crime. Miguel Angel Flores was named as the number one suspect by Saenz as the County attempts to build a solid case against the career criminal.
Flores is currently imprisoned at the Clemons Detention Center in Brazoria, Texas where he is serving time for multiple aggravated robberies in both Cameron and Willacy County. Flores also has an aggravated kidnapping on his record from 2003.
“This is a case we never stopped working and everyone on our staff is dedicated to finding justice for Nahomi,” said Saenz. “We still have work to do on the case so we have to limit the information we can let out, but we’re continuing to build a case against this suspect.”
The early morning hours of July 16, 2016, was the last time Rodriguez was seen alive. After getting out of work at McDonald’s in Harlingen, the 19-year-old recent SBHS graduate called her parents to let them know she had a ride home.
Surveillance video shows Rodriguez getting into a older model SUV, but the occupants and license plate number were not visible.
