On July 3, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the San Benito area in reference to a “civil standby.”
Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the complainant and took her statement.
According to the complainant, she was going to her ex-boyfriend’s house to pick up some items. According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), in addition, she identified her ex-boyfriend as Jesse Leal, 29-years-old.
Immediately, the deputies recognized Leal’s name for having several outstanding warrants out of Cameron County, detailed the CCSO.
The CCSO report goes on to read that at the residence, the deputies made contact with Leal who was allegedly highly uncooperative and refused to provide any information. Once the deputies confirmed the warrants, they attempted to apprehend Leal, but he allegedly refused and a struggle ensued.
