This Friday is San Benito Public Library Director Gerardo “Gerry” Salazar’s last day in office. Salazar served as director for 13 years and plans to spend some needed time at home following his retirement.
“My favorite thing about working at the library was having the opportunity to have my hand involved in a lot of things, not just the library, but the media department and videos; just putting my hands on a lot of things having to do with media,” Salazar said.
Salazar has a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas and has over 20 years of professional experience, having served both the City of Brownsville and the City of San Benito.
San Benito Public Relations Director David Favila said that Augustin Carrera, who is currently the Assistant Library Director, will replace Salazar as Director.
“Under Salazar’s leadership, the San Benito Public Library has continued to demonstrate a commitment to provide top-quality materials and educational resources to all its visitors,” read a press release from the City.
The San Benito Library was recently granted accreditation as a fully qualified member of the Texas Library System for the 2022-23 state fiscal year.
