Organizers invite alumni to reunion

RIO HONDO—An early call for an all-class reunion is on its way to all graduates of Rio Hondo High School, from old, to young, to those in-between.

Estelle Hext Locklear (’68), Co-Chair of the RHHS All Class Reunion Alumni along with her brother Dr. George L. Hext, said their organization is comprised of alumni from all classes and was formed in 1994 by alumni from the 1950s. Their total membership then was 58.

“It was with that motivation that other graduates were interested in joining the alumni, and it is now from 150-200 participants,” said Locklear.

Now the group is planning its next all-class get-together Oct. 6-7, 2023 in Corpus Christi.

“The location was chosen to encourage the younger generation to travel away from home but not too far,” said Locklear. “It is like the spoke of a wheel for others in other cities in Texas, yet having an airport that others can fly into from other states.”

The group organizes its reunions every odd year, with the last reunion taking place in 2021 at South Padre Island. There are no fees or dues to form part of the group, and the group encourages graduates that cannot gather a large number for their separate class reunions to hold them at the same time as the all-class reunion to help both groups absorb the costs.
