The San Benito CISD School Board of Trustees approved a stipend for school district employees as an incentive for staying with the district.
The staff retention stipend was approved following an executive session held during the Tuesday, Nov. 22 school board meeting.
In accordance to the measure, full-time staff will receive $500 and part-timers will receive $300. The monetary incentive will be distributed in December.
The board also approved a number of employee resignations, retirements and terminations.
Later in the meeting, the board heard a presentation from Monica Mata, the district’s finance director, regarding a historical data project comparing funds.
For example, in a fund for child nutrition, the district ended with a fund balance of more than $2.8 million in the 2017-18 school year, increased to more than $3.5 million the following year and decreased to more than $3.2 million in 2019-20. In 2020-21, the fund decreased again, finishing at $2.3 million.
The figures were all audited. For the 2021-22 school year, the fund is projected to end with $4.6 million. The figures for that school year is yet to be audited.
