Tuesday’s election saw Republicans maintain a stronghold in the state races, but the federal race for District 34 U.S. Representative saw Democrat Vicente Gonzales garner 53 percent (rounded) of the vote to defeat Republican Mayra Flores, who accumulated 44 percent.
Still, Republicans maintained their lead in Texas, beginning with the closely watched gubernatorial election: Governor Gregg Abbott defeated three other candidates by accumulating 55 percent of the vote. Principal challenger Beto O’Rourke accumulated 44 percent.
Likewise, Republican Dan Patrick was reelected as Lieutenant Governor, defeating Mike Collier (DEM) and Shanna Steele (Libertarian).
Republican Ken Paxton will likewise remain as Attorney General after Rochelle Mercedes Garza (DEM) and Mark Ash (LIB) were unable to gain a majority.
Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Heger will also remain in office after defeating challengers Janet T. Dudding (DEM) V. Alonzo Echevarria-Garza (LIB).
Commissioner of the General Land Office saw Dawn Buckingham (REP) defeating Jay Kleberg (DEM) and Alfred Molison, Jr. (GRN).
Sid Miller (REP) defeated Susan Hays (DEM) for the Commissioner of Agriculture office.
Railroad Commissioner: Wayne Christian (REP) defated Luke Warford (DEM), Jaime Andres Diez (LIB), and Hunter Wayne Crow (GRN).
Justice, Supreme Court, Place 3: Debra Lehrmann (REP) defeated Erin A. Nowell (DEM) and Thomas Edward Oxford (LIB).
Justice, Supreme Court, Place 5: Rebeca Huddle (REP) defeated Amanda Reichek (DEM).
