Changes to the old subdivision regulations were approved by the San Benito City Council.
The amendments were enacted to streamline the process when it comes to platting and to let the utilities be connected if some requirements are not met.
The action came about after several residents voiced their concerns during previous meetings over the lack of cooperation from the city about zoning and other ordinances.
The council approved the changes by 5-1.
Council member Pete Galvan said he wanted to table the agenda item, saying he wanted to know more about the issue.
The proposed changes were previously discussed during lengthy meetings between the council and private and commercial developers.
On an unrelated item, Galvan was also outnumbered when he made a motion to turn down approving a consulting services agreement with Mercury Public Affairs for a period from Nov. 1 to Oct. 31, 2023.
Mayor Pro Tem Rene Villafranco, who made a motion earlier to approve the consulting services, said the company was instrumental in the new convention center the city is getting soon.
