On Monday, Oct. 31, the Rio Hondo ISD Board of Trustees hired Raul J. Treviño as the district’s Superintendent of Schools. Although there were multiple inquiries, only three total candidates applied for the position.
Treviño had been acting as the Interim Supt since July, after former Superintendent Roger Ellis announced his retirement in May, due to medical reasons.
Treviño acted as the Assistant Superintendent of Academics for four years (2018-2022).
Treviño first began his career with RHISD in 2015 as the Rio Hondo Junior High Principal. Before that, he worked as a high school English teacher at Los Fresnos High School after serving for four years in the U.S.
ARMY Military Intelligence, when he was Honorably Retired as a disabled veteran. He then took a position teaching English Language Arts at Berta Cabaza Middle School at the San Benito CISD, where he was recognized in 1997 as the San Benito CISD Secondary “Teacher of the Year.” Following his nomination as the Director of Human Resources for Los Fresnos CISD in 2002, Treviño later rose to the position of Dean of Instruction for Brownsville ISD’s middle schools.
