The City of San Benito is now under Stage 2 of its water conservation plan and residents should start making plans to follow through.
The council approved the implementation of Ordinance Number 2376 during Tuesday’s Aug. 2 meeting.
City Manager Manuel De las Rosa said he hopes the measure does not go over to Stage 3 and 4 but will monitor the situation from now on.
“I plan to implement the order based on the water levels at Falcon and Amistad dams,” he said. “We will publish a notice starting Saturday at midnight.”
De La Rosa said there will not be a surcharge unless the city buys additional push water and hopes the water crisis does not worsen.
He said the water issue will be brought up at the first meetings of every month to determine if the water conservation goes to another stage of the city’s Emergency Water Conservation Plan.
Stage 2 calls for a number of measures. Including no watering between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Also no grass, trees, shrubbery, annual, biennial or perennial plants, vines, gardens, and other similar vegetation may be watered with a handheld hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle or a handheld bucket or watering can no larger than five gallons in capacity.
