Hog Waddle Concert set for this weekend

Special to the NEWS

After a two-year absence due to the pandemic, the Annual Hog Waddle Concert returns Saturday, May 14, 2022, to the San Benito Fairgrounds. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the gate, but can be purchased ahead of the event at the San Benito Public Library, located at 101 W. Rose St.

Country music sensation Kevin Fowler will headline this year’s concert, along with musical performances by Los Texmaniacs Featuring Augie Meyers, Whiskey D., and Buck‘N Crazy.

In addition to the exciting live musical performances, Hog Waddle features plenty of delicious food, cold drinks and a sanctioned BBQ competition. Free family activities include children’s carnival rides, a petting zoo and Battle of the Alamo reenactments performed by the Texas Heritage and Independence Celebration Association.

Hog Waddle gets its name from a particularly wacky event in the City’s history. In 1914, one of the City’s pioneers marched more than 2,000 hogs up the City’s main street during a parade.

After someone in the crowd fired a celebratory shot into the air, the hogs scattered throughout the town and subsequently took three days to round up.
