The 2022 Los Fresnos Rodeo and Cameron County Livestock Show & Fair broke attendance records, bringing smiles to the organizers of both events.

“We had more people than ever before during each of the three rodeos,” Mark Millum, a committee member, said Sunday. “We have never broke attendance records like we have this time.”

In the 32 years the rodeo has been held, he said they had sold out one or two days but not all three days.

“This is the first time we are booked solid,” committee member Jerry Bruce said. “This is history being made.”
As the rodeo got under way, people in the audience kept applauding, watching the cowboys and the cowgirls competing in their respective categories like bareback and bull riding, steer wrestling and breakaway roping.
On the other side of the arena, students from area schools were proudly taking care of their animals for the livestock show, while others in the arena stood in front of steers, goats and hogs during the judging phase of the event.

Sherilyn Goad, a CCLSF board member, also said they had more entries than in years past. “Of course,” she added, “we did not have this event last year as it was cancelled.”

Goad said $12,000 in scholarships to senior high school students and more than about $11,000 in premium was to be awarded.
