There’s a famous quote that says, “Good things come to those who wait.” It’s a quote that Michael and Yvette Cruz of San Benito and Harlingen know all too well. In fact, it’s a quote of faith that they’ve practically lived and stood by for nearly the last decade.
The married couple waited patiently for almost eight years for a moment that finally came just over a week ago- the moment they welcomed little Michael James Cruz into the world on June 7, 2016, just in time for Father’s Day.
“I was always scared when I was pregnant that something might go wrong so it was such a relief when we finally had him in our arms… I even yelled in the room, ‘I’m finally a mom!’ Yvette recalled.
“Hearing his cry and seeing him for the first time made me feel like every surgery I went through and all the 80-some shots I had to take were all worth it for him to finally get here. I already want to cry just thinking about it,” she added.
The couple had what is known as an In-Vitro Fertilization pregnancy, which is a medical procedure that manually combines an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish, and then transfers the embryo to the uterus in order to become pregnant.
“I must have taken over 30 pregnancy tests before we finally gave up,” explained Yvette. “We knew something was wrong, but didn’t know what. We tried for about 7 years before we finally found out we could not have kids naturally back in March of 2014.”
From that point on, the young couple was on a mission. They decided one way or another, no matter how many attempts, shots or procedures, that they were determined to bring a baby into this world. Well, needless to say, mission accomplished! On September 28th, 2015, the couple finally got the news they had waited nearly a decade for. “(When we found out) I cried and sat for a while in shock looking at the test before I went to wake Mike up,” she recalled. Then, days later, we had our blood work and tests and they called us for the results and we both hugged each other and cried.”
Although it has felt like an eternity for the Cruz family to get to this miraculous point in their journey, they both admit that the real journey has only just begun.
“We are definitely taking it day by day since parenthood is all so new to us,” added Yvette. “We no parenthood is not easy but we have waited seven years for this journey so we are more than ready to raise M.J. and show him all the live we can possibly give him.”
