It was a scoreless game in the bottom of the first inning when San Benito freshman pitcher Erika Cortez came up to bat for the Lady ’Hounds. After the opposing pitcher walked two batters to fill the bases, Cortez had a rare opportunity to deliver a grand slam. She didn’t waste it. On the very first pitch she saw, Cortez hammered the ball out of the park to open up the scoring for San Benito. With a million things running through her mind after that hit, the one thing she wasn’t thinking about was another San Benito batter matching her rare feat that night.
At a baseball game in Weslaco, however, Greyhound Junior 3rd baseman Tony Gonzalez did just that.
