The San Benito Fire Department and the American Red Cross conducted their fire prevention program in San Benito on Monday. The two groups, along with several volunteers, visited two mobile home parks in San Benito where they installed smoke detectors and went over fire prevention tips with families.
The group canvassed the area a few weeks prior to see which families needed smoke detectors and then returned on Monday morning to install one or two brand new alarms in each home. After installing the alarms, members from the Fire Department went over an evacuation plan as well as tips on preventing any fires.
According to San Benito Fire Chief Raul Zuniga, the initiative was the first one the Fire Department has done, though they intend to eventually do more.
