This past Saturday, the San Benito City Commission held a special meeting to interview seven remaining candidates for the City Manager spot, with a final decision expected to come sometime within the next week.
Out of a pool that started out with 20 applicants, the Commission narrowed it down to the following seven: Manuel De La Rosa of Georgetown, Robert Eads of Yuma, Ronaldo Garcia of San Benito, Celina Gonzalez of San Benito, Michael Huston of Midland, Eliud Garcia of Brownsville, and current Interim City Manager Art Rodriguez, who is also from San Benito.

    Status Quo!!!

With the selection of the city manager to be announced today, my recommendation would be save the suspense, drama, drum rolls, etc., when without any hint of the selection, we all pretty much know the outcome! The person selected will have ties to San Benito in one way, shape, or form. I’ll even go a step further to make the selection myself, with no information whatsoever, as to who it’s going to be. Mr. Art Rodriguez?

He’s from Laredo and Del Rio. That’s Texas, but not necessarily podunk…

  1. I totally agree with MR. Santiago Perez LETTER TO THE EDITOR. THE NEW CITY MANAGER FROM THE OUTSIDE. SOMEONE WITH A FRESH NEW VISION FOR OUR CITY.

The problem with outsiders is they usually don’t have a fresh vision. They usually just regurgitate the same usually bland vision from where they came from. Now San Benito may not be the same economically developed city like San Antonio or Austin, but Yuma? I’m sorry, you can keep your vision from little podunk texas.

You just need somebody who is going to make level headed decisions based on what’s best for San Benito. NOT for their resume.
