Since early 2008, the dream of the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum coming to fruition has seemed inevitable. But yet no progress has been made and that grant money is now in danger of running out.
After several years of planning, grants to build the museum had finally been approved, ideas had been laid out, and the City couldn’t have been happier about it. Then, however, members of the San Benito Museums Coalition- a group representing the interests of the Freddy Fender Museum, Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame, and the San Benito history Museum- hit their first road block in the project they were spearheading.
According to Ray Avila, the founder of the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame, the original plans were to demolish the old community building and construct a new 7,000 square foot building to house the San Benito Historical Society, the South Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and the Freddy Fender Museum all in one. In addition, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) had approved a $1 million federal cash contribution with the City agreeing to match another $880,000.

AWE I AM GOING HOME TO TAKE A NAP SEE YOU ALL LATER.
The city administration and city leaders should always be working closely together for one sole purpose, that’s how to better serve and improve the City of San Benito! This should have never gotten to this point, if only, they would have followed what I stressed on my first statement. It really reinforces, what many people including myself have quoted now and in the past, they’re not really there to do their job but just looking out for themselves. In the end, we get the same results and consequences from some of our current administration and leaders, no different from past administrations and leaders, where nothing or partial work gets done. My suggestion to everyone during election time, whether you have family and friends running for office or not, you “must” make your voting selections based on who would better serve and improve our city versus voting solely because he/she is my family or friend! This goes for city administrators and leaders also when hiring people, it should be based on the best qualified and not because I owe them a job or they’re my family/friend! We must all make these distinctions before ever wishing to have a city that we can all be proud of!
