On October 23, all citizens of San Benito were delivered a mandatory public notice declaring that the City had violated the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for total trihalomethanes in their water supply. The notice was not the first one this year and sent some residents into a frenzy, worrying if the water they were drinking was in fact contaminated.
However, according to the City and the Texas Commission on Environmental Equality (TCEQ,), it isn’t something citizens should be immediately alarmed by.
