When Vanessa Balli asked her cousin Juanita Cruz to take a picture of the weather conditions at her home in Jamay Jalisco, Cruz’s brief reply described it all. “I can’t. It’s too windy and dark. I can’t see anything,” she responded through text late Friday evening.
Balli, who lives here in San Benito, has several family members living in the state of Jalisco, which was in the direct path of Hurricane Patricia, a storm reported to be the “strongest ever recorded in history.”
“I’m very worried about them,” said Balli. “Their houses aren’t exactly suitable to withstand any rapid winds. If our homes are just barely able to make it though a storm and we have an average home, I can just imagine what will happen to my family’s homes.”
