“Good Job Kid,” “He’s a hero,” and “Why is he in jail?,” were just three out of hundreds of similar comments that flooded social media this week praising 19-year old Enrique Benitez, who was arrested for Aggravated Assault after beating up his step father this past Monday.
The praising came because of the fact that Benitez was merely defending his mother, who was allegedly being assaulted by his step father that night.
Nevertheless, Benitez was quick to admit that his actions were still wrong as the NEWS interviewed him on Thursday.
“Yea, I know everyone else would do the same…but what people need to understand is I crossed the line. Yea, he hit my mom, and they (people) would have probably hit him back too. But where most people would have stopped, I didn’t. And that’s why I’m sorry,” Benitez said. “Even the detective told me…you know if you didn’t stop on your own, you could have killed him? He told me that I gave him like 13
fractures on his eye and my mom told me today that he might lose his eye,” he added.
