STREET TALK- Citizens voice their opinion on roadway problems

For years now, it seems like the number one issue with the citizens of San Benito has been the pot-hole filled, cracked, and worn down city streets they must deal with on a day to day basis. Many have come to the undesirable conclusion that the City just doesn’t care about truly fixing the problem, pointing to the fact they continue to opt for the quick fix of temporarily filling in the pot holes. While City officials maintain that they are doing “all that they can to speed up the process,” years of waiting on that process has started to take its toll on local residents.
“There are so many streets in the city that really need to be fixed up… some parts of the city are actually unsafe to drive through because of all the cracks and pot holes,” said Jesse Gomez, who works as a heavy equipment manager and has lived in San Benito his whole life. “I would also like to see them do something about the drainage system so the streets don’t flood as much,” he added.

I want to personally thank the Public Works Director, Mr. Adan Gonzalez, and the street crew who repaired a 50 foot section of side walk that was not leveled or uneven. They lifted the sidewalk in sections, tamped or packed down the dirt, and then laid the concrete sections back down and resealed the sidewalk.

They also laid a new small concrete sidewalk section. Although experiencing a rain delay, the project was done efficiently and cost effective without disturbing the traffic (school buses) in front of Dr. Cash Elementary School.
