If softball fans across Texas don’t remember who the San Benito Lady ’Hounds are, rest assured they’ll get an up close and personal reminder on Friday.
For the second time in three years, the Lady ’Hounds have accomplished what many once considered impossible: Advance to the UIL state softball tournament as one of the Final Four teams left in the state.
The girls will square off against Lewisville—the team that ousted them back in 2013 after a controversial home-plate cal. The 6A semifinal matchup will take place at 6 p.m. at Red & Charlene McCombs Field on the campus of the University of Texas. The game will be not be televised live over-the-air, however fans who can’t make the trip can view the game live online at FoxSportsSouthwest.com.
And just to be able to say all of that—again—is something incredible.

Congratulations lady greyhounds on a magical season. You have made us all so happy and proud. Good luck on what lies ahead for each of you.
During a recent pep rally, cheerleaders could be heard yelling, “beat those farmers.” If I were the opposing team, I would be chanting, “beat those Lone Star card welfare recipients”. SBCISD…maybe you could instill in your students that farming is an honorable and difficult job considering the majority of the population in San Benito survive due to the hard work of the taxpayers.
“We’ll do it this time.”
