With fear and anxiety already at an all-time high after a last week’s school board meeting in which the exact positions facing reduction were named, Monday seems to be an inevitable nightmare. The school board will be holding a special meeting on Monday, where Superintendent Dr. Marc A. Puig is expected to have his finalized list of names that will not have their contracts renewed after the end of the school year.

Hey moderator… you left out more than half of my comment about the truth. Why do you do that… it was tactful and actually speaks the truth. Or maybe what you should do is actually go and investigate for yourself… you’d be surprised and you’d expose this Rolando Guerra character for all his wrong doings THEM AND NOW…!! I TELL YOU…!!!

    1. I would refrain from calling people names in your paragraphs. Additionally, some of your accusations (whether true or not) are slanderous without physical proof. Yes, if through investigation we discover otherwise, we will be the first to release the info. Thanks for the tips….

It doesn’t take a rock scientist to first let go of the retire-rehire people, they’re the ones who are double dipping and don’t have child care, mortgage or kids in college they’re empty nesters so give our young administrators and teachers a break. Shame on all of you retire-rehire people for not volunteering to leave. Why didn’t the superintendent look at them instead? Shame shame shame!

Selena….I strongly agree…exactly what my son that has been there has stated to me. ACCOUNTABILITY… should be inforced especially for Guerra but better would probably be a GPS tracker. (HOPEFULLY WHOM EVER IS REVIEWING COMMENTS TO BE POSTED ACTUALLY DOES POST MINE THIS TIME.. i guess my other post got denied because it spoke some truth..)

The former majority of 4 to include Yliana and Fatima are to blame for the employees losing their jobs.
The voters are tired of the mess.

Hopefully, it will be a new beginning on Saturday.

Put Rollie Guerra from PRC on the chopping block, he is a spending magnet. That place is no longer a BOOT CAMP…it’s sad that they have only 1 actual military guy at that campus. I TELL YOU…man o man… what a shame.

this has to be someone who voted for the infamous 4 (julian, june, fatima, yliana) because the comment makes no sense, just as those four never did

What that place needs is a highly qualified certified administrator who is on campus not always claiming to be where he is not. There needs to be accountability for all principals but especially Mr. Guerra. I encourage people to call the PRC or stop in (we are taxpayers). There are too many fights. Even the students know he is no where to be found. We are keeping an eye on him.

    Dear School Board Members,

I am really concern with the fact that the proposed list of jobs that Dr. Puig has presented to the Board of Trustees will affect so many hard working employees. I understand that the SBCISD District is in a financial downward spiral and it needs to be dealt with in a serious matter. First of all, shame on those that were aware that there was overspending on the budget and they didn’t feel concern…… to stop the madness?

I believe, if employees are going to lose their jobs due to the RIF it should be those that can retire with full benefits. Is this age discrimination? NO, it is the fact that we are in a financial crisis and RIF has made all employees “at will” employees. Mandatory and Voluntary retirement is a practice of other entities when they are facing financial woes. It should be an option for the first round of RIF. All employees that are over 55 years of age and have 25 years of service meet the “80” magic number that qualifies them to retire. These employees have served their time and are financially secured. They are very much appreciated, but RIF is the opportunity to deal with those that may never retire and surely earn higher wages then the ones on the proposed list. If they want to continue to work with the district they should have the opportunity to apply as substitutes.

The people that are on that proposed list are people that are pumping money into our society. They have house payments, children in college, daycare services, visiting Wal-Mart to buy supplies for their child’s class project and spending on family outings. Some of these employees are in the beginning of their careers and are considered expertise in their area of specialty. I feel, that when these people are striped from their jobs they will look elsewhere and may leave our community. They will take their children to neighboring districts if and when they do gain employment outside our district. The impact of them leaving our district is going to be felt throughout the community within 6 months. TRUST ME, IT WILL BE A DEVASTATING LOSS!

Please understand that we have to save the jobs of those District employees that need to provide for their young families. Thank you for your undivided attention and “DO THE RIGHT THING”

This includes not only the law enforcement sectors of the valley but also school boards and city administrations,It was remarked that there were many open investigations,on news 5.Good luck.

I understand that the SBCISD has found themselves in a financial situation that will surely effect our community in so many ways. People with great working ethics will lose their jobs due to the FACT that our finances have been headed in a downward spiral within the past few years. I can’t believe, not ONE person from the financial dept. felt it was their duty (obligation to the tax payers) to stop the madness of spending! So, for every bad choice there are consequences. In this case, RIF! I do not agree with the list of positions that were proposed to the Board of Trustees on Tuesday night. I feel, the proposal should have targeted those district employees that have met the requirements to retire with all their benefits. Is it age discrimination? I think, NOT! RIF has made every employee an “at will” employee. District employees with well over 25 plus years and the age of 55 meet the magic number “80” to retire with full benefits. If they want to continue to work with the district, they can certainly be given the opportunity to substitute. I know, other entities have taken this measure to help with their financial woes. We would not be the first to do so or the last, trust me! Take a moment and take this into consideration the district employees that is at the age of retirement already own their homes, they have already sent their children to college and they are financially secured for the rest of their lives. However, the people targeted with this proposal are the ones pumping money into society. They are making house payments, paying for daycare services, paying federal school loans, having family outings, purchasing supplies at Wal-Mart for their child’s class projects. This proposal that will effect the working class families will surely take a toll on this community. If they have to leave San Benito to find employment elsewhere their dollars will go with them, too. Our Loss, their Gain! I hope the Board of Trustees really think of what a disaster it would be to lose people that are highly knowledgable in their existing positions and just a few years into their careers. The financial impact that our community of San Benito is going to feel within the next 6 months is going to be devastating!
