Suspect gets $1 million dollar bond after choking wife

A San Benito man is behind bars after allegedly choking his common law wife, causing her to jump out of a moving car for fear of her life. On Thursday, April 2, Jose Angel Leal, 36, was arrested and charged with Interference in a 9-1-1 call, Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Restraint, and Criminal Attempt-Murder.  The litany of charges resulted in a massive $1 million bond for Leal, as three of the four were felony charges.

    Such a fine citizen. He told everyone around earshot that “One day my accomplishments will be featured in the papers.”
