UPDATE: Lady ‘Hounds keep season alive, face Los Fresnos in play-in game at SBHS Gym

NEWS staff report

UPDATE: Game time is 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at the San Benito High School Gym.

BROWNSVILLE—The basketball season’s not over just yet for the San Benito Lady ‘Hounds.

The girls kept their campaign alive with a huge 37-29 win over Brownsville Rivera on Tuesday night to finish the district season 6-8.

The win forged a tie with Los Fresnos (6-8) for the fourth-and-final playoff spot in District 32-6A. The Lady Falcons stayed alive with a 37-24 victory over Brownsville Hanna.

Now, the neighborly rivals will meet for a play-in game on Friday to determine the final playoff representative from the Lower Valley big-school district.

San Benito, in its first season under coach Abel Moreno, defeated the coach’s former team with its back against the wall to end the regular season on a high note. The girls grew as the season wore on and will now have a chance to extend their season.
