Moses had received his assignment from God. After this intense meeting on Mt. Horeb – the mountain of God – he had received instructions regarding what to say to Pharaoh, the elders of Israel, and to Aaron the Priest who would go with him.  He was also told what Pharaoh’s response would be. He was then told the following:

“And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be, when you go, that you shall not go empty-handed. But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, namely, of her who dwells near her house, articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.” (Exodus 3:21-22 NKJV)

God does not send those whom He calls on assignments in order to flounder and fail. He sends those He calls on assignment to fulfill His mandate for that hour. It will be specific. It will have a specific outcome. It will be what God has predestined it to be. And it will not need the approval of anyone.

Please do not misinterpret what I am saying. I am not condoning willful confrontation that distorts the call of God on our lives. There is a God-ordained moment when we are sent on an assignment of confrontation. However, it must be at His leading and guiding, not as a foolish, immature, or carnal response to injustice.

Forty years earlier Moses would have walked into Pharaohs’ court as a brash young man, without self-restraint, and verbally and emotionally unpredictable. He probably would have called the elders of Israel names for demonstrating hesitancy in any form. I can hear him saying, “Everybody just shut up and follow me! Don’t you know I am here to deliver you?!” This is exactly what God needed to remove from him. This is what God needs to remove from us as well.

There is a significant difference between confidence in The Lord and confidence in our own self. The confidence of God has a characteristic of peace that is undeniable, indescribable and evident to all in the midst of the storm. The confidence we have in ourselves is dependent upon external factors that are favorable to us. The confidence of God is completely internal, based solely upon His promise to “never leave us nor forsake us.”

In Exodus chapter 3, verse 18 we see God tell Moses, “They will heed your voice…” That is exactly what happened when The Lord told me, in a time of prayer, to go to Mayor Boswell in Harlingen and say to him, “I want to start a Prayer Breakfast in this City.” The Lord had already been speaking to Mayor Boswell, a God-honoring, God-fearing man, about this very endeavor for some time. The situation needed two elements. One person to see it.  One person to plan and execute it. When God called me here to the RGV He led me into His perfect will for that moment in time.

“And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be, when you go, that you shall not go empty-handed.” God led us to the ones who would support the Harlingen Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. It is an event free to the community. It is paid for by private sponsorships of corporations, business people and citizens.

I was new to the community. I did not know anyone. I had no contacts or relationships. I simply followed the instructions and counsel of God in every moment. He did not fail me or abandon me in the thing he sent me to accomplish.

I believe we all have a call to regional service. Obedience to this has led to my invitation to say the opening prayer at the Texas Senate this next Monday, February 9th, as “Pastor of the Day.” I went from praying for local Elected Officials to now praying for State Elected Officials. This is where obeying the call of God has led me.

Where is God leading you? What are His instructions to you? He will give you language of the people. Simply go. He is faithful.
