SBCISD Christmas social returns Dec. 17

San Benito CISD is planning to bring back the annual employee Christmas social on Dec. 17, according to Superintendent Antonio G. Limón.

In a letter to local businesses, Limón wrote that the social is “a way of showing our sincere appreciation to our loyal staff members this holiday season.”

In the letter, Limón also asks the local businesses for sponsorships, “to assist our district in funding [the event].” In doing so, the district will help promote contributing businesses through its publications.

Limón said that in past years, the social has always been paid for by the district. This time, however, he explained that the majority of the event will be paid for by the businesses. He said the response was great, and the district received $6,000, which is above the original goal.

According to Limón the district originally cancelled the social because the state cut education funding back in 2011. “That’s also when we stopped the end of the year gathering, because those costs – we had to find ways to cut back.” The funding was reinstated in 2013, but he said, “now, this year, we’re doing this with sponsors.”

He explained that central office’s board room is set up with foods such as tamales and “employees are invited to come by and socialize.” Limón added, “We’re very appreciative of all of our employees. We invite them to come in and socialize – to remember what the season is really about.”

  1. Only in San Benito do our local business pay taxes and also asked to sponsor district social. I’m sorry but that a huge slap in the face to our tax payers when certain employees are racking in $160 plus in over the past 2 months and certain board members family and friends have been giving raises. Mr.Limon, if this was your idea than your not as smart I thought you where. Once again, this a major prime example how our school district has gone south under this leadership but also the board members have to held accountable as well.. I have to say, Ana Cruz and Fatima Huerta must go! By the way, these to clowns gave the new super the tour through the district. Seriously, these two are now best of friends again. Here we go again, elections is coming around and incumbents will start playing games to get votes. Bunch of Hippocrates need to go…

    Another lump or coal

If you teach at either VMA or the high school today’s social is impossible to attend. If you have an afternoon conference period that leaves you with a 40 minute lunch period to attend the School District social. Let’s take away 10 minutes for the time it will take you to get from your room to your car to boardroom. Another 15 minutes to make it back because you have to allocate time for the guards to check in other parents or visitors at the gate. So we’re down to 15 minutes to be at the social with the line out the door trying to serve everyone, we might have 3 minutes to gobble down our food, if that. While the entire time we are worried about our kids that took our quarter exams that day or the kids who will be taking our quarter exams. Just tired of our district not considering the entire SB staff.

Why didn’t Mr.Limon buy the tamales for the employees with 160K he earns??? Why does he have to go into the community to ask for donations to show his employees he appreciates them! SMH!
