Ocelot Discovery: Rare find brings refuge population back up to 12

RIO HONDO – The Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge’s ocelot population has grown from 11 to 12 after a local college student’s discovery of a young ocelot captured on camera.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reported Thursday, Dec. 4 via a press release that Sarah Nordlof, a graduate student at the University of Texas at Brownsville, made what officials term “a significant discovery” while conducting research on ocelot movements for her master’s thesis.
