Board takes no action on superintendent finalist

NEWS Staff Report

The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees has not yet chosen a superintendent.

The board conducted interviews in closed session within three different special meetings this past week in a process that will ultimately determine the new superintendent for SBCISD.

Specifically, the board met in closed sessions on Monday, Oct. 20, Tuesday, Oct. 21 and Thursday Oct. 30 to interview the candidates.

Items C and D on the special meeting agenda for Thursday stated that trustees would also consider naming the lone finalist before discussing the possible delegation of authority to negotiate a contract.

On Thursday, however, the board took no action and is expected to continue discussions on the matter next week.

Last week, trustee Yliana González said it was likely that once the board finishes the interview process, members will need “to get together or wait a little longer to determine who the lone finalist will be.”

As for current superintendent Antonio G. Limón, he will serve as assistant superintendent of human resources based on a two-year contract with the district, though he has indicated that he may retire in the near future.

So I guess those weren’t rumors I hired about certain board members ( Anna, Arnold,Mendes,Oscar) promising/ misleading people to apply for super. We expected that from Oscar because his been a poison on the board for years but now there’s a deadly virus called ANNA and she and will go 2015. The Raymondville guy got and interview, Guerra, Pena from Brownsville which happens to be Anna’s boss. There are just way to many coincidences with the applicants. Remember people the consultant firm works for the board so the board has a major influence on the criteria and the dynamics in which the firm selects applicants, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone with the names on the final group. These board starting with Arnold,ANNA,Mendes and Oscar are a major joke, their much worse than the previous majority.

I wouldn’t say worse than Yliana, the Huertas, and June (come on, be honest)… but they are in the same ballpark.

The problem is that people run for board positions knowing that’s its all about who knows who and who can help who. This idea is what leads those to run for school board instead of the idea of what is best for the students, employees, and community. And until that idea changes, this reoccurring problem will continue to exist.

Release the 49 names mr president…. You and your fellow board members will hide behind the $ consultants you hired.
We all know why the raymomdville superintendent got an interview…Anna you should be ashamed of yourself. Even without a doctor degree and others did, right Oscar?
Enjoy the months anna before May 2015.
People are lining up to replace the incumbents.

You said it best, “a lot of misdirection going on downtown”. That’s exactly what our town has turned out to be, a huge misdirection at the hands of the incompetent. We the people need to take back our town and stop allowing these misfits from running it to the ground. The choice is ours people, take a stand and get involved!

Why are you all surprised? Who ever the lone candidate is will have ties to the board and be local.

Do you think this board will list the 49 applicants so we can see everyone probably more qualified they passed on? Not a chance!

  3. Mrs.Sanchez, the Asst.Super who collected a paycheck for ruining our educational system in San Benito, and was never held accountable. This lady is sad and now she’s leading our city to the dumps. The only reason why she got elected was because all the political favors that where promised and now your seeing it in our city, no growth, she has no power and the commission does whatever they want. Way to go madam major! This is our town, until the voters of San Benito take it back our school district and city will continue to be a money pit for the elite……

Typical : You are very mislead by someone and you obviously do not know Celeste Sanchez!

For your information, Ms. Sanchez is responsible for:
      * a generation of young people having the 21st Century after school program.
      * hundreds of kids having access to music programs at SBCISD like the Estudantina, flamenco, and conjunto groups.
      * hundreds of millions of dollars in State and Federal grants to enhance the programs and curriculum provided at the district.
      * Ms. Sanchez will be missed. Wait and Watch.

      On the City:
      * be reminded that Ms. Sanchez has been there a short period of time as Mayor and inherited a MESS! She couldn’t possibly do any worse than the last Mayor will all of his scandals and waste of money, (for 8 years!).
      * Our new Mayor has INHERITED a City that has no growth and a couple of bullies that don’t want the City to grow if they aren’t getting their share!

What is going to happen to Mrs. Sanchez position? Talk at the beauty shop is that everyone in central office is falling over themselves to get this prime time job. Let the games begin and the favors to flow just like last year principal assignment .

My prediction: the person they want is going to ask for as much as Mr. Limon makes. And they say this distinct is in the hole for $3.1 million in health care. … Ok, we will see who talks now about ” being efficient in our spending”… Sound familiar?

@Parent: Chosen super has ties with someone close to a board member?… Sounds right for sbcisd board of trustees…..board members talking and heard it at the game on friday from a “political financial supporter” small time supt with ties to a big city…. would not be surprise after this board SPEND THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS on trying to get rid of Mr. Limon.
When oh when are the voters going to realize that their voice and votes are important….. election in May 2015 needs to bring in whole new fresh faces… been hearing that a lot of people are ready to rid this board of people who are only out to help themselves… People who have children in THIS DISTRICT! .. this board just follows one voice on the board and it’s the elementary principal. They have FORGOTTEN WHO ELECTED THEM THERE.

  4. @ Juan
I agree with your blog. My opinion is, their trying to figure out who’s political favor is more important. So, this move is critical for there political future! Don’t be surprised if the chosen super has ties with someone close to a board member! It’s sad when your school board is a joke!!!! Ana Cruz must go!!!!
