Viviana ‘Nana’ Cantu of Port Isabel and Micaela ‘Mickey’ Castaneda of San Benito are seen after participating in a recent softball tournament.
It’s a special sight to see young athletes compete at national competitions, especially Rio Grande Valley bred players. South Texas Fully Loaded ‘02 Red, along with other RGV-based fastpitch softball teams, made the trek to Denton this past week to compete at the IFA/VTD (Independent Fastpitch Association/Virtual Tournament Director) National Softball Tournament.
Fully Loaded ’02 Red competed in the 12 and under (12u) division and brought home a 16th place finish out of 44 teams from all over Texas and the United States with a 3-3 record.
Two important contributors to Fully Loaded’s success at the tournament were Port Isabel’s Viviana ‘Nana’ Cantu and San Benito’s Micaela ‘Mickey’ Castaneda.
