Hector B. De La Garza said it best on Friday night: “It’s one small step for mankind but one giant leap for the rest of us.”
De La Garza, 17, was referring to the San Benito High School Class of 2014 graduation ceremony representing more than an annual affair indicative of the usual pomp and circumstance that accompanies public schools’ commencement ceremonies virtually anywhere else in the United States; but for the young adults who’ve known little else other than the educational institutions that guided them throughout the majority of their lives, matters considered ordinary become extraordinary.

@Concerned Parent
Yes I agree!! Like…Duh… We Like… so… totally needed Yliana to give the speech… uh… like… yeah…!!!!
Isn’t that what you are trying to say!! Lol!! Please go cry somewhere else!! I’m sure you are not a “concerned parent” you are probably simply a sore loser because your “GHETTO” board members were not re-elected!!!
LOL…..I agree with WHY. The board should just hand out the diplomas and that’s it. Leave the speeches to the top 10. It’s their graduation. I went to the LF graduation and not one of the school board members said a word. So SBCISD…..get out the way. It’s not your night…….
I am trying to figure out why we have a speech by any board member. No other respectful school district does that… learn a lesson SBCISD.
Congratulations to all the seniors for their accomplishments. Unfortunately, they had to listen to a poor speech from our wonderful board member Medrano. I must say, it was the worst graduation speech I’ve ever heard. I feel we the tax payers and more importantly parents should receive an apology for the inappropriate speech at such a special moment.. The valedictorian and salutatorian speeches where much better.. Once again, you vote Stupid so you get Stupid and it’s extremely obvious.. What do we have to do to get these board members out. We will become the laughing stock of the valley – Grantee!!!
It was such a delight to see al the graduating seniors accept their diplomas. And their good behavior certainly did not go un-noticed.
