The City of San Benito has been awarded a grant which will be used to expand the Heavin Resaca Trail, officials confirmed Friday.

According to Community Development Block Grant Coordinator Sandee Alvarez, the City received official confirmation about the grant being awarded on Friday, May 30. The grant was one of 38 federal grants awarded for recreational trail projects throughout the state of Texas.

“Our plans to expand the resaca are to actually make it wider than what it is, maybe two or three feet wider,” said Alvarez. “We’ll also overlay the existing trail to make it even. That’s basically what we plan to do with the funds.”

they need to take care of all the park not just the one by the water plant the park on the south side is neglected by city employees and the grass by the resaca never gets cut. The basketball court has not been completed the gate around the court was a waste of city tax payer money.

  1. Where does the swimming pool stand. Smaller cities than ours have pools n nice skate parks. Fix them the walking trail is fine.

No the walking trail is not fine, a lot of people run/walk on it and get blisters on how uneven it is.

The City continues to pour money down a rathole. The Resaca Walk is already in need of repair due to SHODDY WORK! When will we get administrators that are more interested in the community than filling the pockets of their engineer and contract buddies??

Ok so they want to make the resaca wider??? The resaca is very shallow, you can practically walk through it, streching it will only make it worse. Who’sidea was it to make it wider, I wonder if they seen how shallow it is. Its like one giant puddle.

    1. Frank, our understanding is that the City plans on making the trail wider, not the resaca.

    2. The Resaca itself is not the property of the City of San Benito.

I believe the resaca (i.e. the water) belongs to the “Irrigation Water District”.

The City purchases the water from the Water District and processes/filters it for our drinking water.

It has been almost a year since the city was notified, What is the problem city commissioners?

Eroded fishing pier still closed, pending repairs (October 15, 2013)
