The San Benito Lady ’Hounds are seen following their victory against McAllen on Tuesday, April 8.

Only a team with high expectations like the San Benito Lady ’Hounds could make winning a district championship seem like a ho-hum affair. By a score of 11-0, the Lady ’Hounds did just that after defeating PSJA on Friday, April 11, and secured their fourth consecutive district championship, much to no one’s surprise, and ninth in recent memory in the process.

Consider that at 13-2 in 31-5A and 23-4 overall, San Benito softball continues to be a dominate force in Rio Grande Valley sports in 2014 – just one year after becoming Elite Eight qualifiers for the second time (2011 was the first for the Lady ’Hounds and any Valley team, for that matter) and the first RGV squad to reach the state tournament.
