Pictured is what many consider the original logo of the San Benito Greyhounds, which new head football coach and athletic director Dan Gomez has considered bringing back.
New coach, familiar look.
In this his first week at the helm of San Benito athletics, Greyhounds head football coach and athletic director Dan Gomez has already made his presence felt after conducting a candid interview with the News on Tuesday, attending a meet and greet event in which he was introduced to the public at a regular meeting of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees, also held Tuesday; fostered a relationship with student athletes, administration and San Benito High School staff; and, of course, considered changing the ’Hounds’ logo.

Football program heading straight to the bottom :
* first hire a no body coach Gomez
* second hire an offensive coordinator that could not win in Harlingen south
WOW ! what is it going to take for the school board to open up their eyes that this Gomez guy is going to make san benito greyhounds a laughing program.
I agree; San Benito has no “uniformity” when it comes to the uniforms and logos used throughout all activities. The district logo is a star with a Greyhound inside of it. The football team uses another, while other sports use others still. I can see how some people would be confused as to which is the official logo. I do not understand why the logo is changed every time a new coach takes over the program. The district should have ONE logo along with slight variants of the same for varied purposes. The changes should be only to color dominance or text placement, addition or omission- nothing more.
The logo should represent the “San Benito Greyhounds” brand. The purpose of a brand is to establish or maintain a unique presence that attracts and or retains customer loyalty. San Benito has a long and proud history of loyalty despite the logo changes, and by extension, image changes. Allow a solid, well-designed logo to serve as the element that binds history and pride to a homogeneous modern image.
Over the years (and more in recent years) the color gold has turned to yellow. Why? The San Benito Greyhounds are and have always been “purple and gold”. This is proof that a solid “Greyhound” brand is missing.
Good luck with this man he should not even be called a coach he is another Evans with the say motto “boys will be boys” with all the hazing that went on lytle that why he left, leave on your own or get fired!!!!!
Logo? The logo that is Now is cool and I think the majority of the kids like it. I heard that they want to put the greyhound running with the letters “SB” in the middle of it like the old days. In my opinion it looked stupid.
Leave the logo as it is and focus on the upcoming season. I know you want to make your own logo but seriously you need to focus on the upcoming season. Heck dont put nothing or just put the letter “G”.
I would like to see the return of the white helmet, as in the Tommy Roberts era. The decal looks great behind the white and the logo can easily be distinguished. I am still in favor of the “gold” color used. Has anyone seen the LSU marching band uniforms? Now those would look sharp during those halftime preformances. Maybe we can form a committee to discuss the logo and uniforms.
Coach Gomez,
You should look into the University of Washington Huskies athletic program. From football to volleyball to basketball to softball, all uniforms are based on the same lettering, coloring, font, and design scheme. In San Benito, football and volleyball and basketball and softball uniforms show no similarity or unity. The baseball uniforms are horendous (did anyone else see the recent photo posted on the sbn?).
The Huskies use purple and gold as their primary colors and incorporate white and black into they variation of uniforms. Even the band uniforms are similar to athletic uniforms. UNITY.
In closing, please go over the alma mater. The San Benito Alma Mater states “purple and gold shall always be”, not purple and yellow.
No ssss Sherlock!
