The final day for candidates to file for the upcoming races for the San Benito CISD and Cities of San Benito and Rio Hondo May general elections has come and gone.
As of Friday, Feb. 28, the final list of candidates for each race is now set.
In the race for the SBCISD Board of Trustees, Arnold Padilla will be challenging Pl. 4 incumbent June Aguilera. In the Pl. 5 race, Joyce Aguirre, Rene Salinas and Roberto “Bobby” Benavides have all filed to challenge incumbent Hector Leal.

This promises to be one of the most interesting elections in years. The political factions are not clearly defined as they had been in previous years. We have some independent candidates that are trying to make a difference, however do they have enough following to make it in. As you know only 16% of the registered voters voted in the last election. We have those running just because someone put them up to it. It will be interesting. May the best candidate with a true interest in the education of children prevail. Some one that can make Pepito Elote happy now that he has also found a problem at IDEA.
