There is a little over a week left for candidates to file in the upcoming races for the San Benito CISD and Cities of San Benito and Rio Hondo May general elections before the Feb. 28 deadline.
The incumbents for the San Benito municipal elections remained unopposed until Tuesday afternoon when former Place 4 City Commissioner Celeste Z. Sanchez filed to run for Mayor. Since the opening day for filing on Wednesday, Jan. 29, the only candidates who had filed were incumbents: Mayor Joe H. Hernandez, Pl. 1 City Commissioner Tony Gonzales and Pl. 2 Commissioner Rene Villafranco. Gonzales and Villafranco remain unopposed.

My vote goes to Celeste Sanchez. for Mayor of San Benito
To my knowledge, Celeste has NEVER…………..
1) been placed on probation,
2) entered a pre-trial diversion program,
3) ordered to pay a $720 Cameron County Adult Probation supervisory fee,
4) never paid a $1,000 fee to charities, or
5) ordered to attend 12 hours of continuing education in municipal law, with six hours that focused on the “Texas Open Meetings Act”.
